A NEW LIFE
July and August were hot. Not smoking, sexy, attractive hot; it was temperatures over 100 hot! It had been years since Missouri experienced such a heat wave. Weeks of soaring temperatures resulted in brown yards, wilting plants, panting puppies and sunburned people. But life and the plans that drive it do not stop for weather.
During the third week of July, smack in the middle of record high heat, something wonderful happened! Within 24 hours a good friends daughter was married becoming the first child in her family to wed and another friends daughter had a baby which was her first child and the first grandchild. In the midst of being crazy busy, hectic, and sensory overloaded with happiness for them both I kept thinking ‘New Life’.
New life is obvious when it comes in the form of a wedding or birth and it requires planning and preparation to undertake new life building. What would it take for you to start a new life? I gave it some thought and came up with at least 5 ways any of us could start changing our current life into a New Life.
5 Ways to Start a New Life
1. Forgive Someone
We’ve all been hurt. What you must realize is holding on to the hurt and refusing to forgive effects you and your progress to a new life. Take inventory and forgive the old hurts that linger, and then refuse to be offended or hurt in the future. Forgiving frees you up to move forward faster. Note: sometimes the person you need to forgive is yourself.
2. Retrain Your Brain
Years of negative thinking takes a toll. Pay attention to what you are thinking about and change the messages you send yourself. Criticizing and belittling yourself keeps you discouraged and stuck. You cannot have a new life with a negative mind.
3. Define Your Purpose
How long has it been since you took time to look at your life and redefined your goals? We often get stuck in a career or personal path chosen decades ago rather than making new choices that fit who we are today. This is the perfect time to pursue a dream you never dared to share or let go of perfectionist ways and venture out of your comfort zone. Set six month goals and evaluate them regularly.
4. Reinvent Yourself
Starting a new life doesn’t have to mean moving across the country or changing your identity. It might be tossing out old labels that have been put on us by others years ago.
Through reinvention a couch potato becomes a runner; overweight becomes fit and slim, high school dropout becomes a college graduate and hourly worker becomes an entrepreneur. You set your own limits so think big!
5. Choose Your Company
Not where you work but who you hang out with. Avoid negative thinkers who complain, blame and whine about their circumstances because they can be toxic. Stay focused on what is best for you and refuse to get sucked into the negativity around you. There are lots of good people out there so choose wisely.
We all have the power within us to improve our existence; it’s a choice and it’s up to you. By trying a few of the tips I’ve shared you can begin the positive change to a new life. Now get out there and get started!
